SD card V1.9

Software contents

Programs and disk images in the V1.9 software package, grouped by file type and briefly explained.

Place all files in the /NASCOM2 directory on the MEGA65 SD card. The F11 browser loads .NAS, .CAS and .PAS files or mounts .DSK images. This page has been checked against the actual contents of sd-card_v1_9.zip.

NAS programs

.NAS files contain memory blocks with fixed load addresses. The browser displays the start address after loading; from NAS-SYS, run the program with E followed by that address.

File Start Purpose
Bandid.nas $4400 Three-symbol slot machine: FRUIT MACHINE.
Breakout.nas $1000 Danish Breakout variant by Blue Label Software: return the ball with a bat and clear the bricks.
galaxian.nas $1000 “Galaxy Attack”, a classic space shoot’em-up with score and multiple bases.
invaders.nas $1000 “Invasion Earth” by Program Power. A Space Invaders variant with selectable difficulty, speed and several projectile types.
JOYTEST.NAS $1000 Live test for both digital MEGA65 joystick ports. Displays directions, Fire and the AY port values being read.
rtc.nas $1000 Reads and displays the date and time supplied by the core’s RTC interface.
G48.NAS $CFFA / $CFFD Original Lucas Logic G48 graphics extension for ROM BASIC. Use $CFFA with NAS-SYS or $CFFD after enabling NAS-DOS, then start BASIC with Z.
TELNET.NAS $3000 Interactive Telnet client with DNS, basic option negotiation and local echo.
CONTROL.NAS $4000 TCP remote-control agent: read or write memory and I/O ports and start Z80 code. Connects to a computer on port 2323.
FTP.NAS $5000 Passive-mode binary FTP client. Supports directory listings and transfers between a server and Nascom memory.
SOUND1.NAS BASIC Continuous tone on AY channel A; a first sound-output test.
SOUND2.NAS BASIC Simultaneous test of all three AY tone channels at different frequencies and volumes.
SOUND3.NAS BASIC Test of the AY noise generator on channel A.
SOUND4.NAS BASIC AY sound example producing a low tone from a DATA statement.
SOUND5.NAS BASIC Small AY melody player with note data for channel A.

The SOUND*.NAS files contain tokenised Microsoft BASIC programs. Load one with F11, start BASIC with J, then execute the loaded program with RUN.

CAS programs

.CAS is the historic binary Nascom cassette format. The core loads it directly from the SD browser.

File Purpose
hangman.cas BASIC word game “Hangman” by Howard Birkett, with contributions by Paul Greenhalgh and Dave Hunt. Its vocabulary is stored in DATA statements.
limo.cas BASIC management game “Lemonade Stand”: choose prices, purchases and daily quantities according to weather and events.

DSK for NAS-SYS and NAS-DOS

These images do not carry the NCB boot signature and are identified as [NASSYS] by the F11 browser. Enable FDD / NAS-DOS, mount an image and start NAS-DOS with E D000. ]D displays its directory.

Image Contents
AVC-DEMO.DSK Large G48/AVC demonstration collection. Includes G32, G48, BAR, BOXES, COLOUR, DASH, FILL, HIST, LABEL, MATDEMO, NASBOW, PETAL, POLYGON, RADAR, RGB, RIPPLE1–4, SPACE, SPIRAL, TEXT, TINHAT, TRI, TYPE and further graphics data. RUN ME is the intended entry point.

Bootable CP/M DSK images

These images carry the NCB boot signature and appear as [CP/M]. Enable CP/M-MODUS, mount the desired image as drive 0/1 and reset the machine.

Nearly all application disks also contain a common toolkit: ASM, DDT, DISKCOPY, DUMP, ED, FORMAT, KERMIT, LOAD, MAC, PIP, POWER, STAT, SUBMIT, SYSGEN, TE, TIME, XSUB and usually AVCTEST.

PAS source files

  • There are currently no standalone .PAS files. BLS Pascal sources saved from the core with F9 receive this suffix and can be reloaded with F11 while the BLS Pascal ROM is active. Several examples will be added here shortly.
  • Note: PASCAL.DSK contains several .PAS files for Turbo Pascal under CP/M. They are stored inside the disk image and therefore do not appear as separate files in the F11 browser.
